So a hood friend of mine owns a 2008 peterbilt 389 but when he bought it 4 years ago the engine went bad and he was offered a 2007 Cummins engine. He’s retiring now and has offered me to buy the truck. Now would there be any issues regarding emissions woth the truck being set up like this?

Set up like what?
-
Well it’s a 2008 so should have def, but because it has a 2007 it no longer has it but isn’t classed as deleted as the engine is pretty emissions. I know down in America that if you have a deleted truck most places don’t touch it
-
Where are you?
honestly, of the engine isn’t in the truck, it is worth scrap value. -
I’m in Alberta Canada. The engine is in the truck. Has been for 4 years. Had a recent rebuild to. Got all the paperwork for it. He’s a good friend of mine and he’s retiring. He’s been running it down to South Carolina and back for the past 4 years. Well maintained truck. I was just worried it having a 2007 engine would cause problems in the states if I break down

If the price is right, run it. I would not worry about it with the number of shops around that will work on it and the fact that it is Canadian, the dealer may not care.

2007 model year engine would be DPF and EGR only. You didn't see DEF until 2010 or 2011 model year engine.
It is normal for the engine model year to lag behind the chassis year. Lots of trucks come from factory that way.Brettj3876, singlescrewshaker and Isafarmboy Thank this. -
Are you intending to import the truck?
-
No it’s a Canadian truck but I’ll be running south with it
-
Ah, got it. Upon re-reading, I see I mistook "running it down to South Carolina and back" as it being a US truck.
Highly doubtful you'll ever have an issue at a shop, but if you do, just tell them that's how they're built for Canada. They won't know any different.
