stability and honesty, that is one thing good drivers want.

What people don’t get is most drivers are crap, they are part of cdl revolving door mega education system and good drivers who escape by taking it as a profession or learn how to drive outside of the system are hard to find and very hard to keep, they are in very high demand.

So finding the good driver is hard, they are intolerant of the crap that most fleet owners pull.

Buy a new truck, make sure you make it dependable and make sure you back the driver and have money to pay at least two to four weeks forward.

I can tell you one reason why my retention rate is high is I don’t buy junk to put drivers in and I pay without delay.

too many people who drive and think a driver will accept anything to drive lose drivers.

too too many fleet owners take their money first, and delay paying drivers for any reason lose drivers, that is a low life owner to me and many like me.

 

Treat me like an adult!
Stuff like I really don't need to be calling you every hour for a load check in. That's what gps tracking is for.
Second is pay. The amount is negotiable, but what is not negotiable is getting paid to do work. What I mean by that is if you book a load that's 50 mi throw in a few extra short haul dollars instead of just mileage pay.
Also, me getting paid should not be contingent on if the company gets paid. Never make detention contingent on if you get paid for detention. Make a policy one hour free, two hours free, whatever. Just make a policy and stick to it.
Oh. Never give my number out to anyone. That's between the company and me. Brokers do not needed to know it. If they need to know something about the load they can call the company.

 

The usuals, inverter, Fridge, and APU. Don't buy anything that you wouldn't drive on a day-to-day basis. As a matter of fact, you should be willing to sleep in and drive the truck for 2-3 weeks at a time.
