Haha! I didn’t think so; I remember awhile back you said you were saving up for a new truck, thinking you changed your mind especially now

The biggest advantage of a straight 10, is it's virtually indestructible. You won't win any races going up a grade but that's not the goal. Reliable, inexpensive to repair, and decent fuel economy are the primary factors. Remember you're buying a tool to do a job. Starting out buying more truck than you need is foolish.

I've had this conversation with a lot of guys who are struggling and going broke. Many times they have went and bought a truck because it's got a big motor, big gears, and a hood to go haul general freight. The fuel and maintenance ends up killing them.

I was gonna ask what the difference was between those transmissions, but looks like I didn’t have to

    A 10 speed doesn't have a splitter, only a range selector.

Oh okay I remember It being called a “splitter”, but “range selector” makes more sense because in a 10 speed (as far as my knowledge goes) there’s the low and high range

My truck's got a glorified 10 speed (aka 15 speed). For what I intend to do with it it'll be fine. Would rather have an 18 though.

Neighbour's truck got wrecked a few years back and I wish I was quicker in talking to them about buying it for parts. 6NZ 475 hp CAT with jake AND retarder (only 2 years since inframe), 2 year old reman 18 speed and fairly new 46k rears. Would have been a sweet powertrain donor for mine. It was already sold by the time it was lowbedded into their yard.

Couldn't say it any better. Even a entry level first tractor will try and put you under. Hate to add up the hours I have spent wrenching on my old FL. But if I had to pay someone, it would have broke me 10 times by now. Maybe I am just a little stupid too.

@D.Tibbitt how much fuel do you save on average again by going 60mph or so?
