I need to figure out how to spec a truck for general freight, driving in the mountains/cities, etc; something all around and not too specific

Mercedes was not a very popular choice for engines. I've only seen 1 in real life and that was in a Sterling about 14 years ago. Don't know how reliable they are but the guy bought the truck new and ran it for about 6 years.

A lot of folks say Western Stars are harder to find parts and service for. Might be true in the US but out here in western Canada they're almost as popular as KW and Peterbilt. They certainly were a better built truck than KW and Peterbilt before Daimler bought the brand. Typically heavier though.

This beach looks like a modeling studio... looks like everybody comes here to pose for pictures...

If you buy old you won't be going to commiefornia, so no reason to worry about the big grades out west. Go simple. Let the other guy blow his wad on big truck and bling, all you need to do is move freight reliably and safely.

So there’s no way to avoid California if you’re based out West? :D

Not from what I've seen. Just the way the rates and freight lanes are. Once you get west of I35, it gets harder and harder to get back east until you get to I5.

The thing about that cheap Tennessee land is half or more is the side of a mountain.

That’s just what I like about Tennessee, too! Love those mountain streams a lot
