If you're getting you're own authority, I'd say $100K in reserve.

    Leasing on to someone-$25K.

And even leasing on, you better know these people. Cause not getting paid really sucks.

Leasing on to a known large player, at least you know you're going to get paid.

Construction game, waiting 60 days is not uncommon.

Construction stuff goes awry all the time. Guys go belly up, job shuts down, split town with the money, or just blow it.

Someone will say you can lien the job.........good luck with that.

I have a rock solid Cascadia I'll let go for $25K if you're interested.

I welcome your opinion! And the main reason for signing on to run under them Is just because there pretty well established and have alot of the third third party work around here. They would also rent me a trailer while I'm getting started.

Thank you for the advice! I appreciate the offer I'm still probably a year or so out from trying to make the leap. I'm still accruing the capital to try and make this all possible

As far as the mobile home hauling venture my buddy made 125k gross in 8 to 9 months last year is that on par with other owner operators? Or is it on the low side?

It's okay, you just stated the "O/O's creed" and exactly why I did it, only I had 15 years of the bosses crap. Like getting married, I didn't listen, and I don't expect you to either, BUT,,,you're building a case against the "company driver" without really knowing what's involved in O/O's. Here say only goes so far, and I think you should go for it, and a word, don't burn too many "company" bridges. You may have to come crawling back, like I did. Remember, like marriage, it's a lot easier getting into it, than getting out of it. I'm glad to hear it's not about money, because, rest assured, there will be times you'll be doing something for nothing. A company, you get paid from when you turn the key until you turn it off, or should, anyway.
Yeah, that Pete was a foolish purchase, but I was so disgusted with being an O/O, I thought maybe a cool old truck would help, and it did,,for about 6 months. When fuel went over $1.49/gal. I sold it and went back to a company job, a union bread hauling job and never regretted getting out of truck ownership.

I guess a lot of it is I love Trucking but I absolutely hate Trucking companies! Out of my 8 years I've only worked for 2 companies that actually cared about me as a person. I would have retired at both but one went belly up in the oilfield recession and I had to leave the other due to I needed to relocate back to my hometown. Out of the rest of the companies some have downright sucked and others were ok. I'm coming to the realization of what this industry is becoming and I don't like it. That's a big motivator in me wanting to go owner op. Seriously it's sad what alot of drivers tolerate with these companies. I've done a few job hops because I won't be lied to or treated less than human. I've come to my personal conclusion that 7 out of 10 trucking companies suck.
