Go to ODFL. Clearly the better option. I just bought stock with them lol

As a new guy at OD. Would I be on call all the time as a linehaul driver?
I am debating on applying out of Milwaukee. Any help would be appreciated

At my terminal the extra board is bid out like the scheduled runs. Day shift is 6am/6pm and nights is 6pm/6am. You can end up starting your week with a 7am start time and by the end of the week be running an afternoon run. That is usually something that happens more often when it's slow. The extra board schedules have start days all 7 days of the week and our week is based on 5 days. We don't force a 6th day and they don't usually run us on our 10. Most of the time you'll have 12hrs or more between runs. That's my terminal but other terminals do it differently so it depends on your location.

I can only speak on OD. I enjoy it, personally. As with what I've seen and heard with most LTL companies the experience is going to vary terminal by terminal. The thing that kills me, as others have weighed in on, are the cameras at SAIA. I cannot personally give my truest opinion for anything SAIA other than what I've heard and read about the driver-facing cameras. I'm not a fan at all of that. But if you can put up with it, then you may be fine working for them. However, speaking from my experience with OD, at least in my region, I've had a pretty nice time there. I worked P&D a while ago and then recently went to Linehaul. The pay is slightly better with OD, but OT isn't until after 12hours. However, if you look at comparisons with the hourly rates compared to other companies that pay OT after 40 or 45, the pay comes out almost even or even more than those companies. I'm not trying to kiss [butt] or anything fork the company, but my experience has been really good here. Hope this helps!

Just curious how much can you gross per year with OD or Saia?

I'm at OD and I did $131,700 last year. My normal bid pays $123,000 so the additional $8,000 was running my 6th day.

Wow. I already work for a LTL company but OD is literally 4 miles away from my house and I know they are hiring.

Wow that’s a heck of a bid! I’m guessing you have a tractor that does 70mph?

Do you know what top rate is currently on the Southeast? I've been with UPSF for almost years and not sure yet what the future holds with T-Force taking over.
