So I have just started the driving portion of my training this past weekend after driving the truck around the yard and practicing straight back maneuvers I have to give my season veterans credit. It is much more difficult than what it looks driving an 80,000 lb vehicle and anybody with a classic a driver's license especially my over the road guys deserve a medal of honor as well as a huge pay raise. I say we all start a petition no over-the-road truck driver bring home less than $5,000 a week. Considering what we do I would say that's the low end of the scale.
By the way I take my test around May 6th wish me luck

Assume all ownership costs and responsibilities, buy a truck and trailer, book your own freight, and you'll bring home 5k per week, no problem. Otherwise what you're saying is a company door slammer should make the same amount as a brain surgeon.
Hulld, Cowboyrich, bryan21384 and 11 others Thank this. -
$5k per week would be a quick way to end the “driver shortage” in one hell of a hurry.
meechyaboy, Cowboyrich, Cattleman84 and 9 others Thank this. -
Yup, may for maintenance, tolls, fuel, IFTA, permits, insurance, registration, breakdown, etc... it's where the big money is. Oh, and those days where things go wrong so you're sitting and waiting, those are just losses, not company paid layover.Cowboyrich, not4hire, JolliRoger and 1 other person Thank this.

Yeah but in the real world you're competing with guys from third world countries to pay their drivers $500 a week in cash and the driver happy you have to be back in the old country starving to death in living in a mud hut
Any attempt to organize truck drivers has failed since he broke the teamsters Union in the late 70s with deregulationNorthern Nomad, reeferwrencher, 12 ga and 5 others Thank this. -
