    I intend going to buy a day cab from New Jersey and brought it to California for myself working as an owner-operator at ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. I don't have my own Authority, MC, or my LLC just yet. Is it possible that I can drive it by myself from NJ to CA, or I must have it shipping? Thank you all for your advice!

    Have it shipped out on a lowboy. Somebody like Home can help you.

    on a new to you truck, there are to many unknowns to make a trip like that. Breakdown on the road could sink you before you get it home.

    Edit: I don’t know why the link shows as home, but it is a link to a towing company in NJ. They have wreckers, but also a large fleet of lowboys.

    No day cabs in California? You couldn't have found one more farther away, and unless you are getting it for free, shipping on that will cost thousands, heck, my daughter shipped her car from L.A. to Colorado, cost $1500. The hassle it will involve, just find a local truck. Penske has a field full, I'm sure.

    The truck will be freight. Regardless of if it is moved via drive-a-way or on a lowboy you are looking at somewhere around a buck and some change per mile. From the NE to California you are looking at $2,000+ to move it. It's worth it IF you are getting a good deal. That is the ONLY reason I would buy it like this.

    Thank you guys! I can’t find the truck like that in California. And whether the amount to pay for the truck’s shipping is around $3000 or less, it’s still a good deal. The truck still has a warranty on it for engine, transmission, rear, and after treatment service. That’s why I want to test it by driving back to Cali by myself. I’ve been told that I just need an insurance, for sale paperwork from the dealer, and log book. Then I will be good to go through all the scales.

    If you have a CDL and insure and register it, you can drive it home. The registering part might be tricky. A bill of sale is not a registration. See if the selling dealer can furnish temp registration which hopefully would get you thru some scales. The worst scenario might have you buying a temp at port of entry. P.S. hold on to your kidneys with the ride ! Bobtailing a day cab 3000 mi ! Can you say fun ?

    Coming from a dealer in Jersey, it will come with a 30 day temp tag. He can drive it cross country on that.

    Was your daughter's vehicle shipped via tractor trailer or by a hot shot transporter?

    Wondering if there's a noticeable price difference.

    Ha! What a fiasco THAT was. 1st, it was picked up by t/t and delivered on a hotshot. So being in a rural area, the car went into a "pool" of sorts, and was eventually delivered by someone going this way. I swear, it would be better to rent a Uhaul pickup and dolly, and do it yourself. THEN, they wouldn't stop bugging me, I got offers from all sorts of fly-by-night outfits that must have got my name somehow, I'd never ship a car again, unless emergency.
