A lot of pilot fatigue is a result of over-regulation of the industry. For all the flying done, a lot of time is spent keeping up with red tape.

That doesn't even *start* to go into the crusty old traffic patterns set up by government enforcement of virtual monopolies on routes.

    But... that's for another board.

You can't compare pilots to truck drivers. Pilots these days mainly do two things. Take off and land. Planes mostly fly themselves. Thats how those pilots ended up passing their destination by 150 some odd miles about a month ago. We have to stay alert and drive the entire time the truck is moving and the vast majority of us have no problem doing it. I believe the statistic is that cars are somewhere around 80 percent at fault when involved in collisions with commercial vehicals. Why is there never a campain to speed govern cars and make license requirements more strict. Imagine the outrage if cars were made to follow the same regulations we do. All these people hollering safety would never support that.

What about the 1.2 million people that die each year because of medical mistakes?

    U NO IT.

FYI using the number 5000 times the percent of truck wrecks caused by four wheelers (75%) = 3750 that are caused by the potatoheads in cars or 1250 by evil big trucks.

Oh yeah Those other 40,000 people killed in auto/auto wrecks? Where no large truck was to be seen?

Let's not talk about those, or how many safe miles large trucks put out.

    Just don't, K?

It would be interesting to see how many people are killed by the "evil big rig" as compared to:
bee stings, sharks, lightning, hunting accidents, train accidents, plane wrecks, etc...
Someone with more time on their hands and a good computer could do a report on that easily.
Like it was said earlier, big trucks account for a very small percentage of highway deaths when compared to all others. While I agree every death is a tragedy and we should strive to prevent all that we can, it seems to me that truckers are unfairly singled out by lawmakers, Law Enforcement and the media while the real killers (4 wheelers) are left alone.
When are lawmakers going to REALLY do something about highway deaths and go after the group of drivers who are the most deadly???

The 1st thing our local school district cut when things got tight was, you guessed it, DRIVERS ED! Funny I can't recall reading about 40,000 deaths per year from bad Algebra or Literature!

the main problem is 4 wheelers and some drivers dont no how long it take to stop a truck even at 35mph you now how people jump in front of you and take up that needed space
