So I'm new to posting on this forum (but have been reading up all your helpful info for about a month now) and looking for info for a newbie owner op. Got 8 years behind me in the trucking business working under someone else's belt. So I've been looking into signing w/ Landstar but from what I'm seeing it's about 2 month process. Finally got my truck, 1999 Kenworth w/ 400,000 on a detroit engine so it's in good shape and got a lot life in it (especially if I nurse it just right) and am looking for some good companies to lease onto that accept o/o's out of florida....got an ideas? Any info is MUCH appreciated!

your gona have to find some small company down there or mabey someone like indian river or some of the other food grade tank lines that run there because nobody else will hire out of FL.

don't worry about landstar, you'd go broke faster then it takes to sign on

Perhaps try SUNCO, out of Lakeland. That age truck will narrow the list. Also could try Sunstate, out of Tavares. Where do ya live, what kind of trailer do you want to pull ?

    bunniecarrots Thanks this.

I'm curious now because my cousin talked about running for them. Do they just pull flatbed ? or do they also pull reefers ?

Much thanks to all of you. BTW I am posting on behalf of my husband and relaying all this info back to him so all of your help has been great. Yeah the truck does sound too good to be true but I guess our bad luck has sent good Karma our way. Only problem with it is that it needs alignment and luckily my husband became good with the mechanic from his last employer right before the owner passed away. Mechanic says we got lucky with that truck. To be completely honest I think he's willing to pull anything as long as the $'s right. He's got hazmat tanker all that good stuff, I believe last on his list of things to do is get that TWIC card, in 9 years never needed it until possibly now. But he doesn't have flatbed exp. Yeah like i said landstar was looking a little too good to be true and we figured that out once I read about how long it was taking to get signed on. We're in the Lake Mary area, which is a lil ways from Sanford, and 45 min from Daytona Beach, Fl.....so we'll see how it goes. I definately need to make sure we try and squeeze in before Jan of 2010 so we can meet that 10yr requirement. As usual you guys here in the trucking forum are GREAT!
