The trucks that they sell are probably overpriced to the tune of about $10,000.00. Having said that after they buy them they go through them from top to bottom and replace or repair anything that they find wrong with them, even cosmetic things.
The Kenworth T2000 that I bought had new seat cushions, back rests, sleeper curtains, mattresses and tires. The Pump, In-Transit Heat, Air Off Hookups and Qualcom are provided, installed and maintained by Miller free of charge and are taken off of the truck if you leave for a fee.
You don't need any money down and the loans are usually 36 months.
Mine is set at an interest rate of 12 % and payments of $501.40/week.
There is a mandatory $3000.00 Escrow for all lease operators and Lease Purchase also have a $5000.00 Maintenance Escrow.
One big positive is that Miller will never leave you broke down and wondering how you're going to pay for repairs.
I had a fair amount of repairs and replaced all tires this year so I used up all of my maintenance escrow but Miller loaned me $6000,00 at reasonable interest and set up the loan over a year to cover it all.
They have even financed in-frames for many guys whether they were lease purchase or not.
I had my engine run away on my last truck and the carrier that I was leased to came and got their trailer and I never heard from them again.
It was 10 years old and I decided to sell it as is and try driving a company truck but that didn't work out and the lease purchase deal was an easy way to get back into the business.
Right now with the abnormally low prices on used trucks you would be better off to buy one on your own privately but if you can't swing it that way this is a good alternative. It is certainly not a "never never" plan and Miller lease operators make better than average revenue.
Last year I did $1.75/running odometer mile to the truck # 9100 miles/month average.
Normally on the day that you unload you get your trailer cleaned and get ready to reload the next morning.
Channelview, TX. is our best terminal to run out of in my opinion with much longer average miles/trip and good rates.
If you are a good worker I really can't imagine you not succeeding at Miller. Even during this recession we are making money here albeit less than usual but no one is losing their trucks or homes.
You don't turn "big miles" in the tanker business but the revenue per mile and accessorial pay is so good that you make the same or better money with less miles on your truck.
We are in the process of switching over to Qualcom Electronic Logs and the tanker business is probably one of the few segments of the industry that you can run 100% legal and still make really good money.
I'm not trying to recruit and am not giving my name or unit number on here for that reason. I'm just trying to give honest answers to your questions based on my experiences with Miller.

We're very busy and can't possibly handle all of the work that we've got so they are definitely hiring. The electronic logs have affected us more than I anticipated and my average miles have dropped to 8104/mo at $1.58/mile.
(all miles off odometer including fsc, detention, etc) I just delivered in Tulsa, OK. on Thursday but it's not an area that I get into that often.
Having said that it really depends on which terminal you run out of and whether you are trying to get into a certain area. I'm sure they would work with you.

I just filled out their online app. Do they still have a spouse rider policy? Medical insurance offered to lease operators?

They do have the spouse rider policy for O/O's. I believe you can get the medical, but don't quote me on it. Ask when they call to make sure.

They have a spouse rider plan but you have to pay a little extra on your truck insurance.
They have a medical plan available to owner operators but it's not the same one that the company drivers are on. I don't know if it's any good as I'm covered under my wife's plan.

They called.Spouse rider is $15.00 month.Medical insurance is available but a lesser quality policy than company drivers.I liked what they had to say,but I did not like the 12 out,2 home at best where I live.Since I live 300+ miles from a terminal they also mentioned banking time off. Sounds like a great company though.
