I am studying for my permit now as well... I will go and get it before I arrive for orientation... one less thing to worry about. -
Hey everyone, long time no see!
I just completed my training and will be assigned my truck after my home time. After 60,000 miles, I tested out, sat through orientation a 2nd time and then went back out with a trainer for 20K additional miles. The difference will be starting at .34cpm versus .30cpm. At 2500 miles, that's an additional $100 each week! You have the option to do that 20K solo in your company truck, but it's gonna take you longer. I knocked out the additional miles in 4 weeks team driving.
I've enjoyed my time with Prime and they have treated me well. We have top of the line equipment and although we won't win any races with our trucks, we have plenty of miles to make up for it.

I could scream all day that I am making good money as a Prime Company Driver, but whats good money to me, might not neccesarily be good money for someone else. I dont pay rent or have a mortgage... I own my own car, and I dont have a family to support...and debt free. My monthly bills are cell phone, car insurance, and Sirius Radio. Also, BY MY CHOICE, I prefer to stay out 6-8 weeks at a time.
Ok, I will give you my numbers for the last year. Mind you these are not in months but in 4 week blocks (7 days). Starting with the pay period that ended 11/05/08 and ended 11/05/09...
thats 53 weeks... yeah, it has to do with the way I kept track from my first week solo in Aug of 08... which wasnt the first week of Aug. Everything I do is in four week blocks starting from there and when I got to the end of the year I had a one week block by itself. (I will note this )
Here how I will format it. Miles dispatched / Milage paid + extra pay(drops etc) + fuel bonus / Hometime Days / Fuel Bonus (how much of my pay was fuel bonus)

I only included hometime days and didnt include days off I was given around the terminal that didnt count as Hometime. I have my car there and took some trips up to KC and St. Louis. Basically I would have to come in for a trainee or training (E-Logs and Trainer course) and the load I was on would get me to the terminal a day, two or three early. I estimate about 7-10 days extra off.
Given the format, it can be mis-construed that I had a couple 1 day only hometimes, and that isnt true... coincidently, all but one of them happen to straddle two 4 week periods.
The last one, being the only 1 day home time. I was with my trainee, and we got to CA where my parents live, and I asked at the last minute to take a day.
Trainer pay is = to Company team pay minus .12/mile (to the trainee) Plus 60 percent of the fuel bonus (40% to trainee) + full team bonus pay (.10/mile for each mile over 3500)
I just dropped off my trainee last night, and will be going solo for a while.
Im on track to make 48k for this year (starting Jan 2009) and just recently achieved my mileage point for a .005/mile raise (.355). At my current pace, will have saved (starting in July) 10k total between my 401k, IRA and savings this year alone.
note: I did not subtract deductions/taxes/benifits..gross pay is represented in my numbersDirtySideDown, JimTheHut and ehilltex Thank this. -
Prime is definantly going to some lighter trucks and trailers... I actually saw one of the trucks at the terminal yesterday.
The lighter trucks are going to dedicated Company driver routes. They have no passenger seat. Single sleeper (no condo) less storage. Super Single tires. Rumor has it, no APU but the one my trainee and I saw had a smaller Kholer (spelling?) APU on it.
Another rumor is that if you are a company driver and live on or near one of these dedicated routes, you will have no choice if they decide to put you on the account and in the smaller truck.
The newer trailers are being used throughout the fleet.(dedicated and non) They are 3k lbs lighter with a 30 gallon reefer tank (20g less) and have auto shutdown when the tank reaches 10 percent. Super Singles on the tandems also. Something like 600-800 of the lightweights have been ordered in addition to a couple hundred more of our usual trailers.
Without hearing it, I guess we are positioning ourselves to be able to haul more refridgerated product per load at some of our regular customers.JimTheHut and DirtySideDown Thank this. -

I am going to orientation in SPRIMO on Dec 29th. Looking forward to it...
I live 15 minutes from the SPRIMO terminal, and I was just sitting here wondering if they will put me on Dedicated when I go Company Solo after training.
I wouldn't mind going Dedicated, I guess. I will make the best of whatever they need me to do... either way.
