Heh. They ain't stupid. They're gonna poach from other LTL companies.
That's how I got the current LTL gig. The smaller company I work for has been losing drivers to one of the national outfits. Think it was a one guy went, then brought in his buds one by one. The smaller "family" owned two, three and four state outfits are gonna have to raise pay or lose experienced drivers.
Supply and demand finally working right for a change.Jay5GS, road_runner, Coffey and 3 others Thank this. -
Are those usually team driving? If so, no wonder they have to pay $99K.

FedEx Freight is also on a hiring spree, though they aren’t putting out press releases about it yet. Over 500 driver openings listed online, and some of them are looking for multiple hires. Off the top of my head, I know of two terminals that are each looking for 12+ more drivers.

$125G - $150G for each driver in the team.
The $99G being advertised is for a solo driver.JForce28, Flat Earth Trucker, road_runner and 3 others Thank this. -

ABF is advertising in Indy for a $7,000 sign on bonus paid on the first day.
I think all of this portends to a very, very good year in trucking. -

Another difference is LTL or Line Haul is basically package freight, so each customer that sends a package on that load has paid a premium price for that one package. A set of doubles, carrying thousands of individual packages adds up to a lot of money.
The companies make enough on each load to pay the drivers well.
The LTL/Line Haul driver does a drop & hook, usually, at a terminal, then the dock personnel sort the load for the City/P&D drivers to deliver to the customers.
That's as simple as I know how to describe it.Last edited: Mar 7, 2021
