I got a Cobra 19 DX IV and a magnetic mount on my 2000 f150 in the center of the roof (Dont know what type of antenna it is old) and I am getting alot of static I have the cable ran in between my cab and bed and threw a whole along with my light bar wire and all I get is static no matter how much I try to adjust it and the wire is cut a little in about 5 different spots and I dont know if that's what causing it to be static I can hear people for a split second on 19 it's bad static I can barely understand them. I have the cb wired to the battery both positive (+) and Negative (-).
I did not ground the magnetic antenna.

Cuts in coax, is likely culprit. There could be more issues after that. But I'd start with coax

The mag antenna is grounded via capacitive coupling to metal on the roof, so it should be OK if it's in good shape. To eliminate any common mode current on the coax, you should make sure the radio's chassis is grounded independent of the 12VDC ground to the battery. If the radio's chassis is attached to metal in the cabin that in turn is attached to the vehicle's metal structure, then the radio should be grounded. If not, run a ground or strap to a nearby ground on the vehicle chassis.

Make sure your coax is not compromised. That part about it being "cut a little in about 5 different spots" doesn't sound promising

You need to determine where the static is coming from. Disconnect the coax; if it stops, then it's coming from the antenna/coax system. If it doesn't stop, then it must be coming from your 12VDC system: an LED light bar, the car's ignition system, or etc... or maybe the radio itself.

My take is this ... what do you call static?

could it be noise from your light bar?

Someone else had this issue recently, the thread is rather new.

but this morning with the new bed lights on, I turned on the cb and got nothing but noise. Shut the light off and it went away.

It seems like you should be able to get a noise filter. I know years ago people installed them to keep engine noise from coming through on the car stereo.

Even with the light bar off and no power running to it, it still has static I got some still even after I ran the antenna wire away from any wire.
