May only micro manages your fuel stops. They don't charge for idling. You're only pulled into a terminal for something safety related, PM service, drop or repowering a load. Those "inspections" you mentioned is more so to help you stay legal so DOT don't hit you with a ticketed for a failed "inspection". May has a good maintenance program and they get you in the shop every 25k miles .
Pick up/deliver on time safely and you'll be left alone to do your job.
You've got good advice from former and current May drivers. May over western express all day man no doubt about that.

I just got done with day two of orientation with western express today... Over all it was a very plesant experiences with a lot of valuble knowledge gained. They put us in a great hotel and fed us unlimited pizza at lunch then gave us a 8 bucks for subway both days! I don't know if im going to get hired because i have a misdemeanor and im trying to get off of ssdi using the ticket to work program (DOR paid for school) Western express was the only company that called me back strait away. Ive provided all the required documents and completed all of the tests with great scores im sure. Im doing great! I see no reason for not getting hired other than the fact that i take antipsychotics and anti depressants plus the misdemeanor .
Anyways so they have really good instructors that go over pretrip, logs, their qualcom system, ect. They made it clear that their company has a problem with failed inspections so they have an instructor that really lays it down on ya and gets you knowledgeable about inspections. Also there is the simple fact that you get 25$ per passed inspection and also the fact that western express gets pulled in more often than other carriers so thats a lot of extra cash if youre lucky and stay on top of things.
I went through 3 orientations back in 2013 around that time... werner, swift, cr england... all of those orientation sucked strait ### compared to this one... One big difference is all three of the previously attended orientations basically forced you to become an owner operator... At this orientation they didnt mention it once. actually werner didnt do that... they just had the crap lousiest trainers the earth has ever seen.
also this was the first time i drove an automatic truck... so i know how to double clutch and shift well but man that automatic... it was like heaven. al automatics now. all their trucks have a touch screen qualcom with a basic gps that takes you on the route they want you to go on... its sick i cant wait to work here... i hope i get to.Last edited: Mar 9, 2021

I see some WE’s bobtailing around the Atlanta area, chances of you tailing from Jersey to Cali are next to none, but most Bob’s I see are going to and from the truck stops to get loads.

It would be amusing to see a WE driver wearing black and white stripes, though.
