Personally, I enjoy the career and lifestyle so far. They say the industry is slow right now and that may have an effect on your options of companies that are looking for new drivers(you), as well as the miles may not suit your bills at home right out of the gate assuming you will be at a starter wage. But if its something you have researched and its something you really want to do, then I wouldn't advise against getting into trucking right now. Might as well get some time under your butt now, if ultimately that's what you are going to do anyways.

Do you already have a CDL? Have you inquired with any companies? What do you do now for a job/career/income?

Just keep your job! There are not that many trucking jobs and most of hese bottom feeder companies (all the biggies) are just filling seats so they can have the truck spotted somewhere "in case" a load comes up.

ALSO if you have to go through school then there is the 1st year of INDENTURED SERVITUDE that you WILL go through! These schools spelled "driver mills are" a RIPOFF! I just KNOW you did NOT just come in and ask the question without reading ANY of the threads that abound on The Truckers Report about exactly what you asked?

Got a job now? WHY would you want to give it up to get screwed? HMMMM?

Heck is it the right time to be anythang. The economy is so bad right now. I've talked to many walks of life thats unemployed. I do hope when it all turns around it hit the trucking first.

I would say no. The economy is so screwed up right now that I would put off a career in trucking if I were in your shoes.

no offence but it seems like everyone wants to drive a truck right now in these economic times, most seem to think they'll start to make good money right off and the reality is your not gunna. most miles/pay is down and it seems most companies hire new drivers to pay them low and it hurts the experienced guys more. in a couple years trucking will mostly be back but right now it seems the market is over flooded with people wanting to drive but it ends up not for them and there out anywhere between 2000-6000$ to get there CDL...I would stay where you work maybe get a part time job somewhere if you can if moneys tight...starting out you'll be lucky to make a liviable wage on the road and if you can take care of the bills at home working where you are you might want to to that instead of gambling on the furture...just my .02
