I’m having an issue where my clutch pedal isn’t releasing to the top. I had this issue before where the clutch pedal wouldn’t release to the top and my jake break and cruise control wouldn’t engage. I change the clutch return spring and that solved the issue. Now I’m having the same issue again. I changed the clutch return spring and the clutch pedal isn’t coming back to the top. I was told that it was my “clutch box” being worn out. Does anyone know what that is? Or have any suggestions? I’d appreciate the feedback.
Clutch linkage or Clutch Spring

Clutch box would refer to the main clutch pedal linkage assy mounted under the floor of the truck.
Pete? Which model?
This could be the issue? You really need to disconnect the adjustable link to isolate the issue and find where the binding is.Rideandrepair and Maverick113 Thank this. -
It’s a Peterbilt 386. And that’s what I thought the mechanic was referring to lol. But he kept saying clutch box. I was sure because I never heard that term. But he did mention it’s was located under the floor of the truck and that the trans would have to be dropped

You do not need to remove the trans to replace the clutch box. It is a big job though as it is monobolted/riveted to the cab floor. Not a job for the DIY guy. Both pedal pivots for leverage are contained in an aluminum box, hence the name.

I had a 389 in a few weeks ago with the same complaint as the OP. Inside the clutch box there is a steel link with ball studs that are not servicable other than spraying externally. One of these ball stud pivots was frozen up.
2019 truck with around 60k on the clock and regular services.
Replacing the link corrected the issue.Rideandrepair, pushbroom and stillwurkin Thank this. -
