Last I heard the idle time was 40%. It might be different if you got an apu. Lucky me,my Qualcomm is ancient. It doesn't keep track of my idle time.If I run the truck for more than 10 hrs I get one of those,Please cycle truck off to conserve fuel messages.
They been on you about idle time?

If you have an APU and can't average 30% then u should think about another career
    That's sad ....
U should have 10-15% or less with a apu

My last carrier made sure and separated the idle time while driving (stop lights, traffic, etc) from PTO idle time for heat/cool while sleeping. That way idle time truly reflected what the driver was doing. Seems like most carriers just lump all the idle time into the pot and then bellyache at the driver.

As a barr-nunn driver for more than 5 years I'm sorry to say the negative things being said about bn are all true and more. This company no longer cares about its drivers and has no sense of loyalty to the ones that have given many years of on-time, safe, dedicated service. All they care about is making the same level of profit they were before the recession started. The idle time thing has become an obsession to the point they will put you on probation and threaten to fire you if you're not within the range they think you should be in. They are now installing idle control units on some trucks as a "test" so if the temp is between 40-80 your truck will not idle while parked. So even if you choose to sleep while hot or cold so you can run your truck to power and inverter for a computer etc. You no longer have that option. I can take the cold and my idle time is always below the fleet avg. But when doing one my many layover days I like to video chat with family, not once they get the idle control installed. Also most of the possitive things posted are more than a year old on here. They are now routeing off toll roads so easy pass doesn't do us much good. Also when sending you on these routes you still get payed the shorter way. Low miles and other changes like layover pay after 34 and in some cases 44 hours instead of 24 like it was, reduced layover pay from 80 to 50 bucks, longevity bonus ($600.00) every 120k instead of 60k, vacation paid after 120k instead of on your anniversery (which may take 14 or 15 months). I could go on and on about the non-driver freindly changes in the last year or so but I will stop here for now. Thought I found a home several years back instead I'm looking for a new home...:(

Geeze Louise! If you have 7% with an APU you are still doing something wrong! I had 3% total which was just from sitting in traffic! When I opened the door the key went off! Thee is NO sence keeping a truck running when you are not in the seat or stuck in standing traffic!

Unless the APU breaks that is, then idle only when the temps are out of range. 75+ in the sun it can get hot in the tractor and below 40 is a tad bit chilly for my old bones but in between those temps the engine should be off! Sorry but I'm old school who used to believe that when the truck wasn't in my driveway it shouldn't be turned off till I realized how much I saved when it was off! Money is money and I like it better in my pocket!

They are definitely greedy and cheap ! Just got fired from them after 2 yrs, had a late delivery. They gave me 2 loads in one night with bad weather. I told them at the Shipper of the 2nd load that the load I was picking up was going to be late, gave them my ETA. I then had a flat drive tire when I stopped for fuel at TA. I called them and informed them of the bad tire and my 14hr workday would be up after the tire replacement. They are getting all over the Drivers about log violations now too, so I wasn't leaving TA until my 10 hr break was over. They had a s***fit and they think it's a perfect world, and we shouldn't have any kind of delays, ever ! They have no understanding or compassion for all the possible delays we can encounter, including sickness and diarreah. Read my other post under Report on Bad Companies.
