Should have brought in a couple hundred of those Bangladesh ship breakers. They would have done the job in a few months.
Of course, would need to put the OSHA and EPA regulations on the back burner for a little while, but they'd git r done.Flat Earth Trucker, truckguy391, Deere hunter and 1 other person Thank this. -
That’s the thing they’re concerned about all the chemicals and other pollutants that’ll leak out as the ship is being cut up. There’s still about 44,000 gallons of fuel oil in the tanks that wasn’t pumped out,not to mention the fuel from all of those cars sitting inside the ship.Flat Earth Trucker, Deere hunter, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this.

Yeah, and those ship breakers wear flip-flops or barefoot and no eye protection when using cutting torches.

OSHA would definitely have a field day with that!

My cousin is a bar pilot in San Francisco He said those car carriers can be an absolute nightmare to maneuver. High, bluff sided, fairly shallow draft, and they catch every bit of side wind that's there. He said they usually use two tugs to dock or undock them but if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction they'll use four tugs.
The cars probably don't have much gas in them but if that 44000 gallons is Bunker C it could turn into a real mess. -
The cars may not have much in them (maybe a 1/4 of a tank if even that)but when you have over 500 of them contained on a ship at once all that fuel adds up in a big way!Deere hunter and bzinger Thank this.

I blame Obama! Should have brought in Detroit crackheads. Would have been gone by sunrise.

Too many rules & regulations.
Much cheaper to buy a ship from a foreign country, flag it another foreign country, crew it with seaman from Asia or Eastern Europe. Many seaman are also from Philippines and Panama.

Why so many shipowners find Panama's flag convenient
Aug 05, 2014 · Most merchant ships flying Panama's flag belong to foreign owners wishing to avoid the stricter marine regulations imposed by their own countries.Last edited: Mar 14, 2021
