This should interest some who are looking at upgrading systems, or buying their first laptop:

Also, the power powerful a system is the more heat it generates. That is the problem DELL is experiencing with their XPS 1600 series. Too thin + great processing ability (heat) = quick malfunctions.
Laptop or notebook? what's the difference???

if you're doing basic apps you can get away with a laptop or netbook, but you have to determine how much weight and technology you need.

I was impressed with my HP when it had problems
They sent a fed ex box and it was fixed in a week
I only use a laptop so not sure about their home models
-
I was so ticked off at their support, that after an hour on the phone and their only suggestion of restoring to an earlier date, I left and went an bought a HP Pavilion dv 7. -
My second DELL; had to be "serviced". I put in the shipping box on Friday (as the DHL driver waited), and it was returned FIXED at 7 am Monday morning.
My next Dell was replaced with a NEW laptop (my current DELL) with only 3 mos left on the 3 year warranty because they couldn't fix it after three attempts. -
BAACK which DELL did you have? sounds like the XPS 1600 for it go bad that quickly. They actualyl have some great systems, but for the money Toshiba and Acer are the best basic systems available on the market right now. Then have a lower percentage of hardware failure, and USUALLY their tech support is great. My previous computer still runs great, but it had a buildup of pet hair which had clocked up the fans. once it was blown out my friend is now using it in her home network. 3 years old and running like brand new.

I've had my Dell Inspiron 1100 since 2002, and I've used the heck out of it. Couldn't ask for a better machine for what I paid for it.
Of course I don't know what Dell is doing today. But if anyone wants to send me one, I'll be happy to test it out and report back! -
These acer computer. Are they really a great investment. I was looking at them. But I never heard the name before. I was going to get one for the truck when I hit the road. To stay intouch with home, Pay bills online, Internet stuff. Not a big gamer, But do like those first person roles. Microsoft word. Really not more than that. Thank its a good idea? Thanks for your time.
