I would suspect the driver too. He should have noticed the lights not working.
If the IFTA was up to date, there should have been the stickers along with the certificate. Maybe the driver didn't have his act together and could not provide the certificate.
All it takes for a trained eye is look at some driver's dashboard. A messy dashboard tells a lot.

    Well a few thoughts ...

First lights go out. Not always the drivers fault for a light out, even with an attitude, unless there is something seriously wrong with the guy/gal, I would not even consider firing him. I had one driver who in a course of a week had a bunch of lights go out on her, it was the age of the truck that was key, old one which was just her luck that week.

second the abs, bfd, that’s on either you if you own it, or on Ryder. No excuse for not getting it Inspected.

Third is maybe when you get a Rental or lease, is to do your due diligence on the paper work, I’ve had issues before and always made sure that the paper work was right.

Fourth, as much as I go against the grain here, this is another case, I have to defend the enforcement officers, they are trained well enough. And to say they need to be certified ... why they are. The truth is many of the ASE certified “mechanics” are morons, I had a few at one place totally screw up simple jobs because they were clueless. ASE is just another money making thing to make the public feel good about the high repair bill they get from a glorified parts changer. Ive taken the practice tests in the past for different things and they are very easy to pass. I know a few enforcement officers in the state and they go through training to spot, not repair but to spot problems and many are good at it. A few I’ve run across are pricks, like a few in Ohio, a few southern states and in Wayne county in my state always find something to ding someone on but as a fleet owner/driver you play their game and just deal with it.

fifth, comparably speaking, drivers can be the dumbest things on earth. I test all my applicants with a Pretrip on a truck I know where all the defects are. If he or she doesn’t spot one of them, they are rejected and surprise ... surprise, a lot can’t find that leaking air hose or the rear brake light out. A couple had problems with the bright yellow handle to the oil level indicator aka dip stick, and one of them had 20 years driving experience. A few, not many but a few spotted every defect, those guys take it seriously and it is not just a job to them.

    ok back to the movie.

you are clearly so desperate for attention that even when you have nothing to contribute you salivate on the sidelines looking for any angle you can get to respond even if its to pick a fight, but don't worry the mods will step in soon and save you before your feels gets hurt, you clearly have no class, over 2k posts and haven't said a thing.

actually you are wrong, pretty ironic its only the trolls that don't understand the original post and used it as a platform to act like children, but those that can actually read contributed with somethin useful.

Its clear that based on the original post that someone isn't getting the full story, ZVar post cleared that up a lot when he posted a diagram showing the two bulb locations. If you actually read the post before jumping on the troll band wagon you would understand that I was merely asking if two violations are possible for one bulb...

Some of you guys are clearly incapable of reading a post and doing what normal people do which is either contribute or move on, but when you struggle with finding an angle you result to throwing a jab or the old one emoji response... interesting reading the responses of "20 year vets" still smashing the road trying to dig themselves out of that lease op Werner promised you the world on... oops I just stooped to your level, I sincerely apologize...

Are you sure it was for the same bulb? If the ABS light was on constantly, it's not a defective lamp. It's a defective ABS system, and the light is on to tell you it isn't working. So I don't know how he could write you up for a defective light when it was clearly doing it's job. Unless he was downgrading the issue to give your driver a break.

I would think it would be hard for him to mistake it for a turn signal, when the actual turn signal is right next to it, and would be clearly working or not.

That's the ABS light. Sometimes mine won't turn off either when the truck has been sitting. But if I move forwards or backwards a few feet, it will shut off once the computer picks up the tone ring.

No, I don’t think I’ll move along. I’m going to grab some popcorn and stick around and watch.
