Until Covid I only drove in the summer months. Although we are stuck at home I did not drive in the winter. I am too old to put up with ice and snow. But it has been nice in the peg so a month ago I started looking for a job. I have always driven USA with some Canadian. Not easy finding a job. Lots of ads on Kijiji but mostly new Canadians. I went for a few interviews. Yards that were mud holes. Dirty offices above greasy shop. Wrecked trucks in the yard. I admit I am spoiled and fussy. In the last 4 years I never had a truck that was over 2 years old. I wont work for Bison. Trans x does that Ontario triangle on almost every run. I like long runs: Florida, TX,CA,etc. I wish I could find a decent smaller carrier. I went on a run last week for a fellow with 5 trucks
. They are 2019 Cascadias with lots of problems. He Leases them. Used trucks that were rode hard.
Had a 2 day layover on a 2 day trip. Needless to say I walked away. Today I spoke with an o/o . He just bought a 2020 579 and is looking for a home. He has looked at Transx and is going to see Longview(not good). He also has an interview with a mid sized outfit. They do a lot of Texas as well as Florida and California. Maybe some BC. Here's hoping. If I don't find something my lawn will be the best in our RM. I would hate to be a young guy with a family looking for a career in this industry.

I'm 28 years old and starting my Class 1 training next month and got approved by both Arnold Bros and Bison for their Mentorship Program. I'm considering joining Arnold Bros, because they require only 1 year commitment (Bison requires 2 years). I don't have a big choice as a newbie so I'll choose one of those and hope they won't give me a hard time lol.

I would choose Arnold over bison. Neither is great. The industry is in the toilet. That said, we can’t get guys to stick on an 80,000 a year, home every day weekends off job. We work too hard apparently.

If you go to Bison, you won’t ever drive a truck again in 6 months (or less). That’s guaranteed, I still have a couple ICI buddies there, 100% of their students in the last 2 years, have quit and never gotten another trucking job in 3-6 months after signing up with Bison; it’s that bad. They had no issues, when they were training with my buddies. But once they got tossed into slip seat DFP hell. They either went bankrupt, insane or crashed due to pure exhaustion/fatigue. Also you’re forced to share trucks during Covid, zero sanitization, literally hot bunk slip seating!!!!

I went through all your previous posts few weeks ago as well as talked to two drivers that used to work for them and I think that reality there is a bit different than advertised. And did you hear anything about Arnold's Mentorship Program?

Len Dubois? Paraclete Transport? Searcy? There was another carrier that I used out of Winnipeg that was also a decent one too, weird name that escapes me now.

Searcy is flat deck and owned by Bison!. I don't know much about paraclete but they are out of Portage with no trucks kept in Winnipeg
