    Breaker one-nine!

    Breaker one-nine!

Hey this here is Clint, I'm from Wylie, TX located just North-East of Dallas/Ft.Worth! I'm 17 years old and have high dreams on being an owner-operator!

I have had diesel runnin' through my veins since I was around 6 years old. Trucks have always fascinated me and I love to get on the cb and just talk with driver's on days when the cb traffic is low. I gave local advice around here for the past year or so and some of you on here may already know me by my handle in my 4-wheeler, my handle was Redneck. I want to be a truck driver so bad it hurts, I can't wait for the day that I can turn the key and become a real gear-jammer like all of you!

Thank you to all the truck driver's who keep these United States rollin'!
Stay safe and keep them 18-wheels'a rollin'! :biggrin_25519:

    Baack and simplyred1962 Thank this.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I have read through your rules, they will be easy for me to follow! :) You won't have any problems from me.

I have questions but I'm going to dig through the forums to see if anyone has answered similar questions to mine before I post them here. I don't like spamming stuff, (repeating things over & over & over again)

:D Thanks for the concern regarding any questions I may have though! I will definately get back to you if I need to though!

    Baack Thanks this.

Actually, does anyone have any tips for me?

I'm turnin' 18 next year in May and will have my CDL.

Texas DPS says that I can acquire my CDL at 18 but I cannot:
*Drive out of the state in which my CDL is registered to.
    *Haul Double or triple trailers

    Questions:
*Does this mean I can dive an 18-wheeler (36, 48 or 53'ers?) as long as I'm in the state of Texas?

*How difficult will it be for me to get hired onto a company as a driver at 18?

*Does anyone know any reputible companies that will hire someone as a local truck driver at 18?

    Baack Thanks this.

Go to college, you can not make decisions till you know what they are. Same advice I gave my own son. Go study general business with a minor in IT. After you graduate if you want to become a O/O you will have a better understanding of running a business and how money really works. Being an Owner Operator is being in business. Get your education first, theres plenty of time for driving. Enjoy the next couple of years. Be safe. Look before you leap. Look forward to make talk to you on the 2-way were suppose to start rumming loads into that area soon.

Cool thanks for that advice! :)

My plans for life are pretty clear through the beginning but get cloudy in the distant future, i'm wanting to go to college and get my business & basics, then go to UTI and get my associates along with my certification to be an automotive & diesel engine mechanic (something to fall back on in case my O/O business fails for some reason), then go into the corps for 4 years, by the time I get out of the Marine Corps after UTI & after College, I will be 24 or 25 years old, that'll still leave me with plenty of time to start my own company. I may just drive for a company and do a lease-to-own plan that way I can have my own rig, but that's where everything starts getting cloudy! :biggrin_25521:

Welcome CBTX ... sounds like you have a plan going. Especially with your thoughts of going into the Corps. I hope you do it all.

You have years ahead of you to plan your O/O career. Take it slow, and get your plan together. The more you learn, and plan the better your life will be, regardless of the profession you choose to follow.

The Corps will be good for me, I had a fairly rough life as a minor, pretty good with bein in the wrong place at the wrong time  nothing to serious though. Hopefully going in and serving my country & protecting the freedom of this great nation will help me gain more respect for it & the people who live in it. I know it'll give me the leadership skills I'll need to start my own company, no school can teach you leadership like the Corps. That's for sure.

I would go military first. One it will mature you so you get more out of college and two it will help pay for it. If you go the military route, don't forget your plans. Some guys get to partying and blow their college.

I might go that route but my dad & a couple of family friends who enlisted at 18 said that they should have waited until they were a little older to go to the corps.

I got a pretty decent scholarship to go to Collin so I might just use up the scholarship money for Collin college and go in the military at 19 or 20, (depends on how quickly the money is used for classes & supplies. Then the military can pay for this big college. UTI is, I think, $26-$30k for the training I need.
