Hi. I’m not fresh out of school but I guess you could say I’m new, been driving for about a year and a half.

ive been otr and there’s tons of jobs hiring in my area. Only problem is is that my current company will not verify my employment. I haven’t messed up, I have a clean dac and mvr. I called my driver manager and he says my company just doesn’t do it and that it’s normal in the trucking industry.
    First off, is this true?
And secondly, some of the jobs I’ve applied to specifically state they want “verifiable” tractor trailer experience. They are really holding me against my will at this company and I’ve been nothing but good to them. How do I get them to verify my experience?

    Farmerbob1 and NavigatorWife Thank this.

And yes, I am still employed with them and intended on giving them a two weeks notice and not to abandon their truck. I have not given them notice but because of the verification process of employers I’ve put my application in for, my current employer knows I’m seeking a different company.
They also called yesterday, a couple different times with a couple different people, trying to convince me to stay.

No I dont think thats true... Cant say ive ever heard that, any company that says that isnt one I would work for. Even employers I left on not so good terms with always verified my employment.

They may just be stalling because they really don't want you to leave. It's very is to verify your employment. Show your paystubs & whatever other documents you have.

Your driver manager is a liar. There is no reason for ANY COMPANY,Trucking or otherwise, not to verify that you DID or DID NOT work there. Is this some fly by night 1099 outfit that is trying to avoid scrutiny on any of their business practices?? Do you drive a White Volvo out of the Chicago area by chance? Is your Driver Managers name Vlad or Igor? We're you required to pay into an "Escrow Account", in cash, before you were hired? I smell a rat.

Maybe get copy of clean dac to have it on record in case of retaliation when you leave.

Go over the DM's head and contact the HR Manager. Tell that individual what "Richard" told you. You will get your employment verification, and DM will get his ### chewed at the very least. " Employment verification is VERY NORMAL in the Trucking industry. REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW as a matter of fact. Some of these DM types have a serious "god complex". They are actually just above the janitor in the office pecking order, and pay scale.

No, employment verification is actually not a legal requirement for any employer in any state except for Minnesota, and only after you’ve been employed by an employer for 6 months at the least. I’m in Texas.

I’ve been trying to contact HR to request certain documents, left a couple voicemails. no answer and no calls back. I’m about to go there in person this coming Monday.
