So what do you OTR folks do to mange trash? Empty daily somewhere, every few days? Where, what are the best places?

I have a 5 gallon bucket for a trash can, I use kitchen trash liners in it, as well as the bags offered by truck stop when a purchase is made. The shopping bags work well to “tie up” a soup can or similar item to help keep it from stinking. If I can dispose of those items right away, I do it. Generally, it’s part of my fuel routine, empty trash in the cans provided at the fuel island. Once in awhile I see an accessible dumpster at a truck stop.

Thanks. It would be nice and much easier if truck stops provided dumpsters.

Why do you need a dumpster? A simple trash can does the job just fine.

Really, we got a thread about where to
    Throw your trash away.
There's a trash can at every fuel pump and
One every 25 feet apart at every big truck stop.

Pfftt, every on ramp and offramp has a trash dump next to it.
Haven’t you seen all the trash littering the side of the road?

Every truck stop has dozens of trash cans scattered across the lot.

Just remove the top and drop your bag inside, then put the top back on. I do it all the time. If the garbage is full, just leaved your sealed garbage bag next to the trash can.

They could be every 10 feet and some lazy SOB would still drop their trash on the ground.

When I go grocery shopping the cashier or bagger puts my groceries in bags. I use these bags in the truck. I put the handle through my arm rest. When the bag gets full I’ll throw it away into a trash receptacle. I find most truck stops, rest areas, even shippers/receivers provide trash cans/dumpster.

My truck has a hideaway trash bag hook, low on the dash just left of where the passenger's left knee would be. I thought all trucks had them. It flips up to become just a flat little oval, sort of like a hideaway bed when not in use. Fits plastic shopping bags perfectly.

I have a plastic shopping bag with the handles tied together, full of plastic shopping bags. They tend to slowly accumulate even though I dump trash most every day during pretrip. I keep this bag of bags stuffed between a cabinet and the upper bunk, with the openings facing out. If it ever gets super full, it goes into a grocery store recycling bin and I start a new one with the bags from that grocery purchase.

And then there is (hopefully) always a small stockpile of widemouth 16oz peanut jars. They work great for a variety of critical uses. Maximum discretion during disposal of the occasional biological emergency is one such use. I've also used them for laundry presoak, get a stain on a prized shirt and want to soak it in soapy water until you can get it to a laundry machine: treat the stain, pop the shirt into one of those jars with the soapy water, put the lid on, and drop the whole thing in the dirty laundry. Also use one for q-tip storage since the flimsy paper boxes they come in fall apart so easy, and another as a sink for toothbrush rinse and liquid cooking waste, which gets dumped in the gutter under my trailer during pretrip.

A great place for the stockpile of empty jars is in the gaps at either end of the mattress. Put a blanket over them and now your mattress just got a little bit longer.
