I pulled over, did my check and there wasn’t any leaks and the engine wasn’t extremely hot nor was the coolant reservoir was boiling. So I closed the hood and start driving again. I was getting check light and stop light for (coolant temperature high). But then as I got back on the road the temperatures would go back to normal then jump to high temp then low then normal is was really weird. And it kept doing that until I got back to the yard. Has anyone had this problem before

Bad sensors, perhaps? I'm no expert mechanic but a bad sensor was the first thing that came to my mind.

Sensors or weak water pump . I think if it was a airflow issue ( bugs in rad) it wouldn’t go that high without boiling over.

    Adamali21 Thanks this.

What kind of gauge scanner is that?

Get a heat gun for quick and dirty sanity checks on your sensors.

My trans temp reads 100 degrees high all the time, 200 degrees is fine, 300 it would cook itself fast. Heat gun shot all over it and tested against a known good temp sensor/location should give you peace of mind. (Though if its intermittent its likely a water pump going out or an electrical fault, electrical will spike immediately, water pump it will rise and fall more gradually)

I went over to the KW dealer bought a temp sensor replaced it and found a little cut on one of the wires that goes to the sensor I fixed that up. Started it up temperature seems to be fine at idle but won’t be able to really know until I get on the road tomorrow

    Magoo1968 Thanks this.

It wasn’t the temp sensor but I changed it anyways because it was surprisingly only 45 dollars at the kw dealer. I think it was the wire that was cut temperature sensor connector wire
Drove 700 miles so far no issues

    petefan4000 and lester Thank this.
