I’m trying to become a owner operator. I been driving as a company driver for 10 years and now I want to make the move to buying my truck cash and leasing onto a company to work my way up and get my own authority. How can I start the process is what I want to know thanks

What type trailer do you prefer pulling? The reason I ask is because if you want tankers or flatbeds, then don't buy a condo tractor, get a mid-roof or flat-top.
A condo is fine for dry van or reefer trailers.TripleSix Thanks this. -
Do you have a certain co you want to lease on to ? Let's say you are interested in Landstar, You would call them and "apply" and they will help you thru the process. Or, buy your truck and then go shopping for a co.

I believe it’s better for you when you are OO. Money is better anyways. Good luck!

In addition, what type wagon you want to pull and where? Then find a company that does what you are wanting to do. Contact that company and get their requirements for trucks wanting to lease on.
THEN we can start truck shopping.GreenPete359 Thanks this. -

I do want to get my own authority but most of the load board apps wants u to have ur own trailer so I wanted to save up more money while I I lease on to a company

Greatwide has home daily or OTR. That depends on where you live though. You'll have to contact the company and ask about that. At one time I drove for Greatwide as a company driver and the 0/0's there could be local or OTR. By local, I mean might run 2 or 3 states, but still be home every day. Also, 0/0's don't compete with company drivers for freight; company drivers get the scraps. The scraps were good to me though, made good paychecks there.

We have a van division here at Ace, we're 100% owner op. But honestly, money management is obviously key. You need to make sure you have good wits about you. I hear a lot of people get ate up by insurance with their own authority. Working hard and good management that will determine if you sink or float.
Either way best of luck, and I hope you achieve what you're looking to achieve! -
Don Hummer Trucking lets the 0/0's use company trailers and there's no trailer rent; use them for free.
