I started driving for an Owner op (Team, tractor trailer) this past Wednesday. We left from VA at midnight, picked up in E PA at 9AM then delivered in W KY on Fri morn 8AM. Set there until Sat morn and could not get a load before Monday so we dead headed home that same day.

Thought we would get something out of K town Sunday but no,not getting anything today either but we have to go to SC for 4 PM pick up Tues to deliver in NJ Wednesday morn, around 500 miles.

My question is. Is it always this slow and why in the hell are they giving solo runs to a team truck? I would think that Fed Ex would be balls to the wall 7 days a week but my wife and i ran harder at CFI then this guy,who has been with them for over 2 years says he ever has with Fed EX! I would also think that they would be giving the teams loads that went out south or north west rather than a 500 to 700 mile run up the east cost that a solo driver could do with no problems.

It better get better than this real soon,i did not go back on the road just to sit in a truck stop!

Welcome to expediting!! Unfortunately this is how it can be. With expediting, you never know what loads you are going to get , where it will take you , or how many miles you will get. My husband and I have done runs that are only 100 miles, and the next one might be over 1000. You just never know! That is why owners prefer putting teams in their trucks so they can be available for every load. It makes sense but it doesn't help the bottom line when a team runs mostly solo runs. Unfortunatley, freight is still slow for expediting, and with the holidays coming, after Christmas it really slows down. Jan. and Feb. are the slowest months. But trucking is supposed to pick up next year and be much better in 2011. Hang in there, be available for everything, and I really hope things go well for you. Good Luck and safe driving!!!

    Update.

Well we are still not running what i would call hard but by god when we do run they want it there ASAP and pay us #### well to get it there! The truck made just over $10.000 last week in only 5 days time so i can deal with that just fine..

You said it . It's not unusual for expedite drivers to sit 2 or 3 days between loads . Things are and will continue to be slow . FECC has given their contractors a list of brokers to use to find their own loads if no expeite freight is available .

Probably not going to improve for a long time. Our president does not exactly have job creation on the front burner. Traditionally Presidents think job creation is not there problem, except for NAFTA sent the jobs around the world.

Their idea of 'job creation' is creating new and exciting bureaucracies, usually following a rush of legislation. Voila!
A bunch of new 'crats to suck up a bunch more tax money.

:yes2557: I think everyone should just be patient and take a deep breath. Our country has had much harder times than this. We are a people that wants everything fixed right now and we have patience for nothing. The President inherited ALOT of problems that he is at the very least attempting to find a solution. I just got back from Black Friday shopping and the mall was extremely crowded and every person had plenty of bags full of merchandise. I believe the worst is over, we will overcome this and be stronger for it. We have learned a valuable lesson about greed and a better idea of how to keep our money in check. Give our President time, and remember-prayers work better than complaints.

he may have inherited some problems a lot of which was caused by the democrat controlled congresses unwillingness to deal with Bush, but they pale in comparison to the problems he has saved and created in just one year of his presidency
