Right, Melton trucks use opti-idle now.JoeyJunk Thanks this.

My truck has such a thing. It may not be as bad as regular idle, but it still counts it as idle time, and doing it a lot still makes it want to regen a lot.
-
It was the same with the company I ran & it was a midsize but anything that I reported got repaired & as you I treated it well. That mentality helped me for when I moved on to owning my own truckAlexD13 Thanks this.

Is the 2016 and up Cummins more Reliable than the Detroit DD15?
-
While we are talking about apu and idle times does anyone know about how many engine hours a truck with 400,000 miles should have if not idled?
AlexD13 Thanks this. -
Fleet trucks are usually rode hard put away wet

Nothing other than saving money, fleet will dump it before warranty up. as someone who worked in various dealers. The big fleets get away with much more as far as pushing and or not doing services. Simply because the fleets buy thousand of trucks and the mfg is gong to ##### to loudly about it for fear of losing the truck orders. Werner does not do over heads on their trucks unless something else such as a injectors replacement requires it. They also base oil changes based on the fuel quantity the burns. Some engines for 80k
I change my oil at 30k in my Detroit’s oil samples say I can go further. But my last 2 Dd15 went over a million miles and never had any major issues. I do not believe in running fluids long time. Grease my trucks and trailers every 10k, Power steering fluid and filter 60 k. 3 box oil change 300k, coolant flush 300k. Get premium price for trade as well. Me personally I wouldn’t buy a used fleet truck for anything other than some parts. Would be like buying a old rental car. Worked in dealerships to long to see what some of the pigs in this industry do to equipment.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
I can see changing oil a bit early but these modern engines have extended intervals of 75K to even 80K. 50K IS changing oil early. Changing oil at 15-25K is akin to riding the short bus and believing your mom its because you’re “special”. It ain’t 1985 anymore boys.
Chinatown Thanks this.
