It all depends on the kind of job, that the customer wants. Cat says that.005" and more, should be repaired. All of my expert mechanic customers, follow that recommended spec. I install many, many of them, each month. I do not require them to follow that spec. It is up to the mechanic.

I've repaired many for Susquehanna Service, in your area.

My 6TS had the issue back in 04 found during overhaul. I had them deck the block. Cost an extra 5 grand plus everything they replace while engine is out.
I believe it comes from poor coolant maintenance. -
All mine were pitted on mine. Block deck grind brought everything into spec.

This is a way of fixing the deck, in frame. Saves much money.
lester Thanks this. -
And as these cat blocks keep getting older you are going to see more repairs needed to water jacket holes. I know when I overhauled mine they were looking a little rough but not bad enough to need fixed yet. And yeah I'd rather buy this guy a plane ticket to fix in the truck than to have to pull the engine outBrettj3876, Vampire and Truck engine machinist Thank this. -
