I am approved to go to Central through their training. I called yesterday to find out if I could still work for them if I got my cdl first. They said no. They said that they do their own training, that way, the driver is trained the way that they want them to be. Their training is superior in their minds.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

My school does not do job placement. Normally recruiters are sent out to talk to the students but at this time company's aren't sending them out so the school gave us a list of company's that have hired their students and wed sites for job searching. I'm learning this is not a good time of the year for looking for a job as a graduate and with the economy the way it is isn't helping. -
I've been calling trucking company's for the past week and none of them are making any sense. I went through a very good and intense training from experienced drivers not just to learn how to drive a truck but how to be a good, safe and responsible truck driver. All I need is a week OTR with a trainer and they will see how well I was trained and how well I'll do for their company. Unfortunately they all have a bad taste from students that were not properly trained and are very hesitant to hiring someone that was trained else were.

I have been having the same problems. I have called probably 200 companies and still nothing after 3 weeks of finishing school. Some will not call me back even after leaving several messages. I have a clean record and still can't get anything.

It's because of the Mi. economy. If you have family in another state try using their address and you will have a little better luck I'm sure. At this time most trucking companies are not hiring out of Mi. because they cant get enough freight going out. At least that's what I've been told.
good luck.GoBlue487 Thanks this. -
I was told the same thing by one of the trucking company's I called, Not enough freight coming out of MI. My question is, Isn't there freight coming out of Canada, wouldn't that make MI a good spot for drivers. I live not far from I94, the main run between Detroit and Chicago and there are a butt load of trucks running all day all night both directions. Can't I get on one of those runs. I see Canadian trucks running all the time. -
Makes no scene, most trucking company's still train you with or with out a CDL so they can see for them selves that you know what your doing. If they won't work with you than probably not a good company to work for.
-
That's the problem, most of the trucks you see are driven by Canadians. Not all but most are. I'm just off 94 as well around M59 and I-94. I know Conway has runs that come in and out of Canada from Taylor Mi. My guess is most co.s will wait till after the new year before they start hiring again and then they probably will not hire many.
