If it's regularly then yes, for whatever states you are going to travel in. If it's a rare occurrence, you should be able to get a Trip permit for the state that you are going to travel in. You would need both plate and fuel permit

That’s right, He’ll need a IRP plate. I wonder if He has UCR already, or if that’s also something to get.
PE_T Thanks this. -
Do your homework, if wood chips is all you will be hauling, I think they are an exempt commodity, some laws are different as far as what you will need.
I have friends in Texas that only haul oilfield supplies and choose to not go with irp tags, and authority to run out of Texas, and just buy permits when running Louisiana, which they do pretty often. -
Question! Similar situation here! But how did you keep up with miles? Odometer reading? Gps? Eld? I used GPS but for the period they’re looking at that gps is long gone and I have the printed miles! Which are accurate! But I wonder if this is acceptable with no way to back it up?? My downfall is no odometer readings or routes of travel except for the log books for out of state trips!

I keep up with odometer miles. Odometer miles are logged each time we fuel and each time we cross state lines. Fuel receipts, trip logs, IRP paperwork, and IFTA paperwork all match to the truck odometer miles.
Where you will get in trouble is if mileage doesn’t match with whatever paperwork you have.BriMc Thanks this. -
I ran the loads through pc miler and they’re give or take! But like pcmiler would take routes under a bridge that isn’t necessary because I know you can turn right straight onto the bridge lol

No odometer miles because odometer was
so we just went off gps! What kind do you use ?

I just ordered the daily driver log 5n1 so I won’t be making this mistake twice! Got a new truck that the odometer is working good so every back up I can get im gonna use it!
