    Do you hear air for just a second when you move the switch, or is it longer or continuous?

    Just a second. Doesn't sound like a leak. Local shop said verify at least 90psi at the lines going to the range valve. If there's 90 there hit it with shop air to see if it moves like it should. I dont hear a clunk when I flip the switch like the selector is actually moving. He also said that low air pressure can be the cause of the grinding noise. If I have the right pressure there and the valve moves then it could be the synchro keeping it from moving into high range.

    Okay, that eliminates an air leak.

    Why I first thought of the O-rings, even if you have good air pressure in front of them, if they're bad or dirty, it can be low behind them.

    Could you remove the air lines at the top of the transmission, put shop air to it and test it that way? If you could that should tell you wether it's the synchro or not.

    I'm setting in line waiting to unload and was playing with the switch flipping it back and forth and I heard it start working on the trans. Then my air got too low and it quit again and it's gotten stuck in the low side again. So to me that means the selector valve is getting hung up and everything else is working.

    If its moving slow then it could be causing my grinding issue possibly?? I'll get it home this afternoon and see if I can get it apart and get it cleaned up and working correctly or if I'll have to buy a new one.

    It could be. A good cleaning may fix it.

    Just something to consider, do you know when the transmission oil was last changed?

    I have no idea when it was changed last. It probably needs it and all the other fluids changed.

    Oh man, I'd be getting on that immediately. Transmission, diffs, hubs... all of it.

    Thats the plan.

    Been doing some research and found a diagnostic manual for the electrical side of the shifter. And what pressures to see where. I yern for the day I have the spare money to pull this meritor out and put a 13 or 18 eaton in its place.
