I am a relitive new driver looking for a good company to work for. I am in the San Antonio area. I know I will have to start at the bottom and totally willing to do so. Today I applied at Swift, Central Refrigerated, Stevens, and Werner. I have also applied at several other companies in the past few months. I have experience driving straight flat bed trucks as well as straight dump trucks. 1 1/2 years in total (not all CDL)
I guess my question is if you were in my place where would you start and who would you hope to work for? I dont know much about companies except what I have read here. I just need some good honest advice from a seasoned driver.
Thanks,
R.J.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

It's not what company you want, it's what company will hire you, so be willing to be flexable in your search. Now-a-days, things change almost daily in the hiring process. I hear of newbies getting hired, then told to stay home because of policy changes. A pre-hire means nothing. It simply means on paper, you look OK. It costs money to verify applicants info, so why do this when applicants change their mind as the wind blows. Once you are at orientation, then the verification process begins. Yes, there are exceptions to this, but for a company to totally process in a new hire before he shows up to orientation would be putting the cart before the horse, so to speak. You know I'm right.

Allow Me is absolutely correct. Get in wherever you can, stay a couple of years then think about where you want to be.

Thanks I have a laundry list of companies I have applied at and Gonna stay on them about my apps. In all honesty I dont care about the company I go to work for as long as they will hire me. If I dont like them I will use them like they use us and get the experience and go on my way. So any company will work as long as I am makin money I am happy!

CBtalker205 are you serious????????? You can actually say that you don't care about the company that hires you. You my friend are why it's hard for people that actually care. Hey Du?????ss you will not last period. Go somewhere else the trucking industry is full of people like you that is why it is hard for good honest hard working people to make a decent living. YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT WHO PAYS YOU. Get lost.

I agree with CBtalker. These days you take a job with whoever will hire you and put your time in. Thats what i'm hoping to do. I been out of work so long i really don't care who i drive for. At least for the next 6 months to a year.
If that bothers you feel free to send me a check to help feed my family and pay the bills. I love driving a truck and thats what i'm gonna do.
I know that statement was directed towards me but it rubbed me the wrong way.

I just got my CDL and also am looking. I'll have to get on with a company that trains for I have no experience and I'm having no luck. I think it's because of the time of year (Hollidays) Swift told me they are not hiring until the first of the year and I think that is the way it's going to be with most of them. If I had at least on year OTR right now I'd have no problem but as a recent grad with no experience it's touch right now. Werner will probably give you a call but they are only offering team driver posisitons. Good luck!!Last edited by a moderator: Mar 4, 2013

OK let me rephrase that. I DO care about the job I get because I dont wanna end up at some company that will just end up screwing me hard core. But I do want to get in a truck and start doing what I want to do. So if a company will hire me I will jump on it quick. Work for them for a year and if it dont work out the way I would like then I will search out the company that is right for me.
As for pesonaly attacing someone for wanting to work, maybe you should take some time off or maybe even find something else to do as you may have been working to hard and to long. Just an observation.simplyred1962 Thanks this.
