several years ago while going from tn. to pa. in a day cab, i was flat ##### wore out & pulled in a rest area in wv. to lay on the steering wheel for a little nap.something woke me up & i looked out the right side window & saw that i was rolling backwards. i started pushing on the brake pedal to stop, to no avail. after trying to push the pedal through the floor, i woke up a little more & realized it wasn't me that was moving,it was another truck pulling out & i was sitting still with the brakes set & the engine off.

During the blizzard of '78,We had 40 inches of snow. I was in the National Gaurd with a combat engineer unit.A friend and I had a 10 ton lowbed delivering heavy equipment from a site on Cape Cod to various locations in Mass.We were working 20 hr days for a week. One drove as the other tried to sleep in an uncomfortable, unheated tractor.that had wind whistling in from every direction. I saw every type of animal known to man, and a few new species. I was 27 at the time, and could never, or want to ever ,do it again.

I'll have to post some in the eighteen wheeler photo section.
    Thanks, I appreciate the compliments.
On STAA routes you can have as long a tractor as you want in front of a 53' trailer and that is what I pull. Of course I am illegal on most non-staa state routes but then again so are a lot of people.

I saw a woman walking down Hwy 60 at 0300, really swinging her butt too, 150 mi E of PHX. Stopped to offer her a ride, and when she walked by the truck she said MOO! Was a Whiteface cow, really, kept going right down the berm. My buddy Keith got out swinging his tire iron on I 25 in S CO, sent another guy back to his truck for a tire iron to help fight Peteradactyls. Once while hauing Christmas Hams from NE-IA to OKC in early NOV,it was warm and my friend stopped me and said, "I had to stop and sleep back in N KS because I hit and killed the most beautiful butterfly in the world and after bawling my eyes out, driving a few miles and bawling more I realized it was a moth.

Remembered another one. Going across I 40 toward Barstow and every few miles I'd see a chicken right on the berm. Told other guys and they just laughed at me and said I'd better pull over. Sure enough I caught a chicken truck with a crate open and when I went by a chicken they mustve flown off. Antoher time my partner woke me up and said. "Look, a gorilla in that horse trailer." I had seen it but I convinced him to pull over he because needed the rest. One time we were between Las Vegas and Hawthorne NV and I wispered, "Where we going?" He screamed like a girl.

I know a guy who unloaded his 357 into the back wall of his sleeper on his 379 Pete because he swore a DOT officer was on his catwalk with a lasso around his steering wheel trying to get him to pull over. There were other things along with the lack of sleep that caused this though. Luckily he no longer drives.
