As a driver you got to gitch it while the gitching is good. If the possibility arises you can take a whole week off I would definately take it. =Most OTR bottom-feeder drivers only get 2 Christmas days + New Years.

If you can take off 2 weeks the more power to ya.

Your BF needs to talk to his fleet manager about this. Doing it by qualcom is the best way to do it, that way it's etched in stone. Good Luck!

BTW my experience with them has been great!

I have a friend who drives for werner, has for years, I bowl with him and asked him about it. He said he makes good money driving over Christmas, too good to pass.
I don't drive for werner, but with my company, the money to drive during Christmas is also to good to pass up. I will get the better runs that usually go to the veterans who are taking Christmas off and get to prove myself as a rookie which will help me get the better runs in the future.
Now werner is a lot bigger than my company, but I imagine there are times where it is easier to jockey yourself into a better positon for getting the better loads.

Yes, and as rookies we really need to remember that this industry isn't like any other, we need to take advantage of busy times to shine and create our career.
Too often, we rookies want to put our paycheck and career in the hands of some company, But, you got to make your mark, and with so many drivers taking Christmas off there is good money to be made, but more important more opportunity to make your mark.

A reward? That sounds like another scam to keep you out. I agree with others who say to ask what type of reward. Isn't it sad that you need to sacrifice your time with loved ones just to make a living? Doesn't seem right to me.

That is all in how you look at it. I mean, for me, I am thankful I have an opportuniy to work when so may don't. I also know that I am a trucker, and there are loads that need to be delivered, I am proud of that and that I can do it. I won't be alone, there will be other truckers, there will be police, doctors, nurses, waitresses, soliders and more all out here doing what needs to be done.
For me it is no sacrifice at all, I have love ones to provide for, and I would rather be working and be away from my family than to ever have them worry that there won't be a roof over there head, food on the table, money for their education and a few extras.
My dad served in the military, he was not always home for the holidays, but, we never worried about a roof over our heads, food on the table, he provided for us and I was, and still am very proud of him.
The sacrifice is being made by our soliders, many who not only will not be home for the holidays but will never be home again. It is no sacrifice for me to move freight and keep America rolling when others are giving their life.

im a current driver for Werner. I was told that i could get 5 days off over thanksgiving if i stayed out for 4 consecutive weeks in a row. It ending up being 5 weeks but they got me home. I think it may depend on the dp because mine told me that id have the same option for christmas. Ask you dp but do it on the qc so there is record of it.
