    Agree with you 100%!
Still doesn't justify the end result. I have a stupid belief people should be responsible for their actions.
A country believing we are entitled to everything and responsible for nothing. It is a shame justice has nothing to do with the crime, only the monetary payday.

Somehow, the lawyers twisted it so to convince the jury that the carrier RCX brokered the load to was working for RCX, like an employee.

Obviously no one in the jury room had any knowledge of the trucking industry, and the judge was a moron.

As funny as it sounds, i wouldnt be surprised if that was actually their mentality. And im sure the lawyers for the victim of the crash play right into that game

Just another way for the oligarchy to destroy small business and the middle class. Instead of a million trucking companies, there will be a handful making all of the money.

As long as civil litigation attorneys are allowed to work on a percentage basis, this trend will only continue to worsen.

That, and juries see these matters as a way to "stick it to the man" and "help the little guy."

What we really need is to raise the legal standard from the ridiculously low "preponderance of the evidence" to at least "clear and convincing evidence," and to "beyond a reasonable doubt" if the damages are to exceed a certain threshold, say $250k for individuals and small businesses and $1M for larger businesses.

Or, we could enact tort reform that limits damages to the amount necessary to make the plaintiff whole plus reasonable attorney's fees and court costs, or at a bare minimum takes into consideration the financials of the party being sued.

The third option is simply to disallow juries from determining award amounts, letting them determine whether or not the legal standard has been met and then having the judge set the award.
