I think what that means is the newer trucks are being specced with the collision mitigation, lane departure, and camera systems none of which makes driving any easier. As for being a technology centric company, they have a lot of it but none is implemented very well. Lots of different systems that don't communicate with each other so you end up having to do a lot of things two or three times lol.

All but the older Mack Pinnacles from Superior are autos. The Internationals have Eaton Autoshifts unfortunately.

AutoShift. Remove the "f" and you'll have the truth about those transmissions.

Eaton-Fuller Advantage autos, OTOH, are great.

    Amen.

I call 'em Eaton DisAdvantage. Of course, programming has a lot to do with it, and I work for a global supercorporation whose managers soil themselves over the prospect of saving a teaspoon of fuel over the life of the truck, so there's that.

I feel for ya. I remember back when I was OTR and management thought that they could save a lot of fuel money by spec'ing Super 10 Top Two transmissions, with reduced torque in top gear. It was almost impossible to drive that thing correctly so that I could keep my fuel mileage up.

I will always prefer a 13-speed over anything else, but if I have to have an automatic then this Advantage is the one I want.

    Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this.

I had an auto when I was with Trimac and I hated it. I just don't see how any auto can work for tankers. The surge just overrides it at slow speeds. When I went to Superior they put me in a Mack with a 10 speed and I much preferred that, but that Mack was the hardest riding truck I ever drove!

I know there are no real comfortable trucks out there but that Mack absolutely took the cake man! First time out I thought surely something was bad broke on it.

I run an auto with food grade tankers and the trick is to put it in manual mode and select each gear when pulling away from a stop that way the surge won't cause the trans to upshift prematurely.
