Do you have specs on the truck? Engine make, HP specs, tranny(DO NOT BUY A 9 SPEED), rear end gear ratio info?
What happens if 3 years into the lease, you and Swift part ways?
I am not going to laugh or call you stupid for doing the L/O deal, as I know some guys that have done well. But they made a pretty good deal more than the usual mileage pay.

as for those who actually took time to 'help' with a post that brought something to the table...
i'd be all for going thru a 3rd party, and drive for someone else...aside from just listing companies (CRST, Werner, Englund...see i can do it too) how about listing companies you KNOW FOR A FACT are hiring? AND would they hire someone with just 13 mo. experience who wants to be a O/O or L/O?
yeah, guess you can call me stupid, because i dont have the first #### clue exactly how you go from one job to another and have no lapse in a paycheck. There would have to be some time involved in leasing a truck, finding a new company to drive for.....not to mention i dont know how/why another company would hire me then wait for me to find the truck to make payments on, or vise versa....who would loan me the $$ for a truck without having been hired on by another company.

Leases=bad because.....
Your stuck. When you lease the truck from the carrier you are obligated to keep that truck with that carrier for such time frame that is written in the contract.
Now what happens when they decide they don't want you anymore? They starve you until you can no longer pretend to be a O/O.
What happens when that carriers freight dries up & the carrier goes belly up? You still lose the truck to the lien holder that the carrier has it financed through.
What happens in 2 years down the road you find that you are no longer happy at that carrier? Your screwed there as well. You signed a contract to be with that carrier for so many years with that truck. You can work your other 2 or 3 years being miserable (no a good idea in trucking) or you walk away from the lease & guess what, you lose the truck.
When you lease a truck, you are nothing but a glorified company driver with limited bragging rights. The carrier is not going to give you the freedom to make your own decisions with that truck. It's kinda like selling your soul to the devil!
Third party finance=good because...
If your not happy.... You take your truck to someone else.
If you ain't getting the miles you desire... you take your truck to someone else.
You have control & freedom over your truck, maintenance, home time, etc etc etc.
If the carrier you love so much loses their ####, you take your truck elsewhere.
Your not contractually obligated to no one. You have the freedom to say bite me! You ain't making me do this or that!
As a L/O your still a company driver & will not learn nothing about the O/O side. The company will be doing everything for you as they are now.The Challenger Thanks this. -

I have read horror stories about people going fleece with companies like this. I know one member whos doing good over at Central leasing a 387. However, his family has been in the business for twenty plus years and knows how to make every cent work.

For leasing a 387 at lone mountain you need to have $3800 for the down payment. You pay $1195 for for 48 months. Plus you have warrenty from cat till 600K. No I do not work for them (would be cool wouldn't it); I just know the facts. Plus you can apply for a grant to buy an APU. The grant is 5K and you can finance the rest. So you might think $1300 is high but that comes out to $325 a week with no balloon compared to $525 plus balloon.
I am going to guess the specs on the prostars there leasing: ISX400ST, 13spd or 9spd convertible w/ 1650 max torque rating , 3.55 rears, and company gauge package.
