    For the old truck:
A completely rebuild engine $20k (or $30k for a drop in reman)
    Tranny $5k
    Rear ends $5k
New fifth wheel, front end, rebuild drive shafts, all new rubber parts, seals, e.t.c another $15k.
So, if you find an older pre 2003 truck with no rust, have it completely rebuild,it will be under $70k. You will know what has been replaced and have confidence in your ride.

Or you can take that 60k and put a down payment for a new truck. Nice comfy ride, warranty and if it's not plagued with problems, ride it for 4 years and trade in for another one.

Anything in between of those two options is just a waste of money IMO.

Replacing frame rails really isn’t all that bad of a job just a little time consuming, about the same $ wise as an inframe.

personally I like the older stuff paid off so I can work less and enjoy life

I love the old iron too. I've been picking away at a 1980 W900 the last couple years. Hopefully by end of summer I'll have a cab on a rolling chassis.

From my experience buying new is the cheapest way to go. Get a T680 with endurant 12 speed auto and Cummins X15. Buy the 5yr 500k warranty for good measure.

    OldeSkool and KullenTrucking Thank this.

I’m seeing that it really comes down to these 2 options. Thanks

We know what the answer is, a so called driver that doesn’t know what they’re doing destroyed them. That’s the only plausible explanation.
