BP should be checked sitting....laying pressue will always be lower unless something is wrong with you. Do you drive laying down?

My guess is that they had him lay down for 10 minutes to relax. Then sat up after and took the bp.

I do not know of anyone besides paramedics that take bp in odd positions. I have taken them upside down on accident scenes.

Roadmedic I'd assume that, but you can't just assume anything these days. I've seen it all except upside down pressure :)

In a car upside down during an accident. Most people would not even consider this.

Many of the patients we see are also bedridden. We take many BP's laying down.

I certainly would not expect the physical to be done laying down though.

I know my own pressure laying down is much much lower...I have had i done laying down and it was like 95/48-110/60 at different times...I'd rather see my pressure up higher to be honest...that laying down reading started to freak me out.

What can really suck for a DOT physical is what's called "white coat syndrome". It's a condition when due to anxiety from being at the doctors, the patient always has a high blood pressure reading at the doctors. No matter what. BP could be 120/80 everyday, all day, and when you are getting it checked, you'll always get a hypertensive BP reading.

It's legit, look up white coat syndrome, med students read books on it.

when i go for recert. i tell them this and they give mine time to come back down. I have seen it at 175 over 110 and then in a few it wil be 111 over 75, it all so helps that i go to the same place all the time so they know this
