HELLO EVERYONE, IM NEW TO THIS FORUM. I HAVE A 3406E 1LW CAT WITH 1,800,000. IT WAS REBUILD AT 1,000,000. IT IS A 475/550, I NEVER TURNED IT UP TO A 550. I CURENTLY HAVE RTLO 18913A TRANSMISSION WITH 3:36 REARS. IM WANTING TO REBUILD IT WITH ABOUT 750 TO 800 HP. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT OLD POST SUGGESTING A 800HP MARINE CAM, 58 INJECTORS, AND A ONE PIECE STEEL PISTON FROM IPD. ALSO THIS MOTOR IS A 40 PIN ECM. I WOULD LIKE TO GET THE BEST FUEL MILAGES AS POSSIBLE. SHOULD I GO WITH ALL CAT PARTS OR SEARCH FOR AFTERMARKET PARTS. I WAS GOING TO PUT THE 800HP CAM IN AND A NEW CRANK, AND THEN TAKE IT TO CAT FOR THE PLATNUM REBUILD.

Just something to think about... high horsepower like you are talking about, decreases engine life. While its nice to do 65 mph up an 8% grade without dropping a gear you won't get the same life out of a high horsepower engine.

700hp is easy to get. Can do that with just a different flash file and turbo upgrade. 750-800 then yeah probably different injectors, could do a cam but not necessary. Cooling system upgrades. I'm running the IPD one piece steel pistons in my 6nz at 700ish hp. No complaints going on 4 years with that kit

As others stated, high hp isnt going to increase longevity in your engine, what caught MY eye is you want "good fuel mileage" too.

First, running a stock 3406e and 3.36 rears and that transmission, you should get 5-6.5 mpg almost no matter what you haul. (3 axle truck, 2 axle trailer)

Second, going high hp and USING it is guaranteed to shorten engine lifespan and tank your mpg

Id say outside of heavy haul/doing b trains theres not a whole lot of point in upping the hp beyond the stock 550 limit. But at that point you cant be worrying about fuel mileage and new engines or rebuilds should be part of your buisness plan

It is absolutely possible to have high HP and get decent fuel mileage

Decent is subjective and so is high hp, everyone hat ive known firsthand thats turned their truck up past the initial mfg limits has had nothing but problems and suffered mpg wise.

You say its fine, fair enough, i just havent seen it borne out

Lester can you tell me a set up with 3:25 or 3:36s should I stay around 700-750. I really want 800, but I will be satisfied with 700-750hp with decent fuel mileage
