How did you get the Texas waiver?
It might be a similar process. Have you spoken to the medical examiner that did your current med card? -
I wouldn't drive a car with one eye, much less a truck.
No depth perception is only part of the problem.
To me it sounds totally irresponsible by all parties involved. -
Have three years of safe driving experience in a commercial motor vehicle with the vision deficiency,
How does one do that without a CDL? -
-
Depth perception only comes into play at relatively short distances, like hitting a switch on the dash. Beyond, say, 15 feet, depth perception doesn't really change much with or without binocular vision. The biggest difference is field of vision, which requires moving your head a bit more to cover blind spots.
The reason the change in regulation has been proposed is that the driving record of people with vision waivers is not statistically different from those with normal vision. -

To quote my personal doctor, who is on the FMCSA registry in addition to his regular practice:
"You nearly have to be an astronaut these days just to pass the physical for a CDL"
This is intentional. The powers that be(government and business) would rather have a young skinny recent arrival from another country driving a class 8 truck
They are plentiful and work cheap.
