@not4hire can verify for Canada, but...

Simply log off duty. The back of the truck isn't a valid sleeper unless converted to be one.
There is no regulations stating you have to be in a hotel. Heck, you don't even have to rest, you just can't be doing anything related to the truck.

    1. Can't use sleeper berth on logs; back seat is non-conforming.
    2. Required to take 10 hours per day off-duty, 8 of which must be consecutive and the other 2 can be in increments of at least 30 minutes each. No regulation for where or what you do so long as it isn't an on-duty activity.
    3. Don't claim you slept in a hotel if you didn't because in Canada you do have to show receipts if asked. (I simply met a lot of friends and had a lot of relatives on my cross-country trips and they are nunya... ;))

Oh, wait a minute, just went in to read "Interpretation" in the regulations and found:
    Hmm, research required...

Schedule 1 (which defines sleeper berth regulations) still exists and certain parts of the Hours of Service regulations still reference it, so I would expect that part of the regulation is still in effect even though the definition of sleeper berth has been removed from "Interpretation."

    FYI, the previous interpretation:

Just use off duty for your 10 hour break, also here in the states you can't use it for split-sleeper since that requires an actual sleeper. We sure see a lot of guys sleeping in the back seats, so I'm sure its a logging issue, and don't lie about the fines will go up.
