The Yellowmark one I got was a few thou out and was warped about 2 INCHES when set on a flat surface. Genuine CAT was 2x as much but perfect right out of the box. Definitely a better quality product.

Not all aftermarket is good quality. I found a few really cheap prices but steered clear due to no name recognition of the manufacturer. It isn't worth the few dollars saved in my opinion.

Sad thing is Yellowmark is actually a Caterpillar brand. I think Yellowmark used to be called CAT Classic Parts.

No real experience with them but have heard a few bad things about the quality of cat classic parts. I think a lot of these big name companies like harley and cat are relying more on their name these days than anything close to a quality product

Just put the head back on and torqued the bolts down. It all went fairly easy. Still have main bearings, rockers, cam gear and a few wires / hoses.

Anyone know on the oem side for pete 379 1996 the wires that go over the gear cover to the passenger side. I have the coolant gauge wire and a/c as they were the only ones hooked up. There are 2 more one I assume goes to the coolant temp warning light and the other to coolant level (neither of which were hooked up) how to tell?.

Made a few of my own tools and bought a few to get it done. A 2 ton cherry picker did the hard part.

Well, I think it was time. Maybe change the oil a little more often.

Did 2-6 all loose then 1 at a time. Tightened down the cap with the thrust washers, then did 1 & 7. Pretty messy job but it's done. 20210412_210428.jpg

Ordered a new vibration damper from highway heavy parts and it was leaking some sticky goop. Must be viscous damper fluid. Waiting now to see what they are going to do. There is no visible damage and it was never installed. 20210414_170733.jpg
