Had an interview with caltrans yesterday. It will be a slight pay cut from my current job but it will offer a lot more upward mobility. If I get the job I will be hired on as a class B driver and they will train me to get my class A. No other company in my area is willing to do that. They will also train and certify me on lots of heavy equipment. If I get this job I think it will open a lot of doors for my future. We will see what happens.

I wouldn't trust any California state pension plan to be there 30 years from now. They don't even know how they'll pay for the existing pensions.
RockinChair, BoostedTeg, Roadgeek395 and 2 others Thank this. -
I lasted 4 years as a public employee and went back to trucking but I have a low tolerance for BS and lazy people .Roadgeek395 Thanks this. -

Everybody I know that has a DOT (guverment) job seems happy. Straight forward hours and in some states the health coverage is good. It takes hard work though especially if you are that one working with 5 supervisors watching you!
Roadgeek395 and bzinger Thank this. -
How many other places can you sleep while holding a shovel and get paid for it LoL
