Dump truck owner operator, how do you find work?

I don't know about in general but here in the Cleveland, Ohio are we have a brokerage (Cuyahoga Valley Trucking) that seems to deal with nothing except dumps. They are the go to name around here for dumps As far as I know they have no competition other than working for large home builders directly.

 

I see DAT has a category "dump trailer".

 

I always advise O/Os to get acquainted with the people at the quarries who distribute the loads to the carriers, that way you can get requirements and rates straight from the horse's mouth.

 

Did you try visiting the quarries in your area and offering them your services?

Just started as a water tanker driver at a quarry. The construction boom is using all the rock this company can mine. Constant stream of dumps arriving full with full dirt or used asphalt to dump, and empty or empty picking up asphalt or aggregate for concrete, roadbeds, construction, etc. I am told many of the firms and drivers have been coming here for decades and are well known to the dispatch and managers. Quarries want more trucks hauling to and from, so I would think a sales guy or dispatcher might recommend something for a new O/O. Most hauling out are just the regular dump truck. A few tow a dump trailer.

 

make sure before buying a dump truck to have contacts or jobs lined up , talk to owner operators with dump trucks maybe they will give you leads most are haters that wont tell you info....but if you can get over this hurdle you can make good money

 

Most of the time with local work like this, all it takes is getting your foot in the door then you’ll usually stay fairly busy. I’d agree with the above post about talking to drivers at the local truck stops. There’s probably several places locally to haul out of you just have to check it out and decide which one seems best for you.
