Pull a step deck. Have only run open deck trailers for 20+ years.

Today I was at a shipper, the load was nothing special, a lumber load, actually a house kit.
They had a few things going on at the place. They also had a small problem with the kit, took like 20 minutes to fix. The Owner of the company walked over and apologized for the delays and problems. Then asked If I had eaten anything today. I replied to his question. ( had a snack) 10 minutes later he brings out a sack lunch for me. Sandwich on home baked bread, cheese crackers and home baked chocolate chip cookies and coffee.

You implied that another member was lying and can’t possibly drive without hard braking events pulling a flatbed. So I offered my experience also. You don’t have to justify your driving habits to me, same as I don’t have to justify mine to you. The only difference is my system of driving defensively works every time. Your system of not backing out of it because you’re chasing an extra 50 miles for the day will only work until the one time it doesn’t.

Theres your problem, you equate miles with money, screw that, mipes dont make money, its the load that matters.

Do equipment haulers mess up? Yes, but in proportion to box van mileage drivers not nearly as much.

Ill take my time and get there safe with no problem, on time is their problem if they scheduled it too tight.

God prefers deisels has a post on his ifta, q1 is 21k miles, thats about what i run, 1600 miles a week. Im not starving. If you HAVE to make miles to make money, i dont know what to tell you other than i dont think thats a wise model to follow.

2 LESSONS in not being so broke one cannot PAY ATTENTION!!
I had "sudden braking challenges" but since I used an excessive amount of Straps (on Tarps) and Chains (on Coils), I was not concerned about restructuring the Tractor and My Self.

Truck driver swam to shore after driving into pond, troopers say
Appears strangely obvious as to Improper Load Securement, yet in this Case it's irrelevant.
    Good to see Driver survived.

Trucker survives after steel coil crashes into cab
Watching the Video opened up the use of STRAPS to "secure" the Coil(s) with maybe "a chain"??
It's Good Driver Wasn't Injured, so Driver can hopefully reflect on WHY COIL MOVED!!
Oh, Right, Sorry, Silly Me, It's a Covered Wagon so no Securement Needed.
    CHEERS!!

The one time my system of not slowing down for vehicles at stop signs, red lights, and on the shoulder does not work and I rear-end someone, it will be the other driver's fault because I will have the right of way.

If I am driving down a highway with a 65 mph speed limit at 65 mph, and if the car is at a stop sign, and if the car pulls out in front of me when my truck is 100 feet away from the car, how the heck can the resulting wreck not be the fault of the driver in the car? Vehicles on the highway have the right of way over vehicles at a stop sign trying to turn onto the highway.

My fleet managers equate miles with money too.

The average solo drivers at the trucking companies I worked for got 2,000-2,500 miles per week. I used to drive on a Dedicated Walmart Reefer account at Covenant. If a truck on their Dedicated Walmart Reefer account only did 1,600 miles per week, he would be removed from the account.

And when that person gets crushed like a bug, it ain't gonna matter who had the right of way--they're still dead.
