For those who have mandatory driver facing cameras?

In my life as well as my posting history on these boards and others like them I have tried to avoid self-aggrandizing comments. However, when I was an active driver I considered myself a professional and acted accordingly in regard to my job. I will say this in regard to any driver monitoring equipment. I learned my lesson with that dang hard stop device on my QC. I swore I would NEVER drive monitored like that again. If I was still active the day I discovered a camera of ANY KIND onboard my truck that is the day I clean it out and go home. I rather flip burgers than put up with safety calling me every time I pass gas!

 

Sorry, wasn't aware TS Attorney was all that insulting......but when someone is putting out completely false and mis-leading info I feel compelled to correct their in-appropriate thinking so others get the actual truth in stead of a made up scenario.

 

No need to be condescending, although I do find it kind of funny. In a darker time of my life, I used to sell insurance. I know how risk pools work. I know how statistics work. I know how gambling works. An insurance company is never going to give away free money in the form of "credits" or "bonuses". This is just pretty wrapping paper. In the end, the house wins, or the house wouldn't play to begin with. Regardless of how any of this is worded - the insurance company figures average overall cost, and then charges premiums that put them in the black. As well as using their money in safe investments to turn more coin. You sure as hell aren't going to offer some kind of incentive that will cause you to lose money...

Risk pools.....you mean a Risk Retention Group? Then yes they average costs and spread them out to the holders of a certificate of coverage from them.....but a RRG is NOT an insurance company.

We, as an insurance company decided that cameras, and other telemetrics provide value, and in an effort to attract those insured's who utilize these devices REWARD them with lower premiums than those that choose not to try to mitigate driver issues.

Of course insurance carriers are trying to "make money"......the shareholders require it, but when did profit for a corporation become a bad thing?

The beauty of free enterprise is that as an informed consumer you can search the marketplace and find a insurance facility that meets YOUR needs.

 

It really depends on the company. I worked for one for 6 months that had driver cams. They did not care if you used your phone while driving, I used to use mine to switch music playlists/changing podcasts. The boss told me as long as I'm not using it all the time it's not a problem. Even when I saw my boss driving the trucks he was also using his phone.

The rules were not strict, only reason I lasted so long there. It was almost like it wasn't even there.

You might believe that. However these incentives are only offered in the first place, because it saves you the money to be able to offer them and still profit. Unless you're going to tell me you guys bring in less money per year due to these incentives??

 

In the insurance industry, Risk Pools are typically state mandated Assigned Risk operations, which in turn have a regular insurance company as the "issuing carrier", yet they retain none of the risk. Insurance companies are NOT risk pools.

The part you seem to want to miss is that we, and other carriers, are willing to write SOME insureds at a reduced premium level, because they are using various telemetrics, which based on our actual results, show a decrease in FREQUENCY of loss, so they deserve a lower premium.

We, as an insurance carrier would rather have risk management involved insured's in lieu of ones that pay their premium, and don't feel they need to "manage" their risk.
