Okay, that’s what I hoped. I think he’s just trying to pad is paycheck since we have 2 clocks to run on. I definitely want no part of team driving! Haha...

You raise an interesting point. I started as a company driver not too long ago and at the end of my corporate career. My plan was to learn the biz as best I could and then move into my own truck. I figured once I had my own truck, life would be easy and I'd work on my terms. Kinda like the semi-retirement you're hoping to achieve.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
I've kept to the plan, with one exception. I'm working as much, if not more, than when I had a "regular" job. So much for semi-retirement in the traditional sense. The BIG difference now is that I really enjoy what I do and most of the time, it doesn't really feel like work. Except for today after a batch of a week I can't rest because I've got an air line on my transmission that needs to be changed out. Today, I really wish that was a company truck because there's nothing more I'd like to do than enjoy this beautiful weather we're finally having. -

Well guys, It didn't take me but about 2 weeks to realize I didn't want to bring my wife into some of the situations I had encountered in some areas such as Chicago, St. Louis, Minnesota, etc. I had to stay in some rathole places because of HOS and / or receiver locations and appointment times. I don't think I would be much of a husband taking my wife into some of those conditions. I hate it because I really enjoy driving the truck, didn't mind backing, waiting at shipper / receivers, etc. etc. and all the other complaints I've read about. I just couldn't bring myself to believing this would be a good fit for my wife and I traveling together. I turned my truck in, thanked everyone for the opportunity they gave me and headed back to TN. Not sure what I'll do from here; probably nobody will hire me for CDL position (since I didn't make it the first year), but I plan to take some time to search locally, pray for direction, and see how to move forward. I still want to thank everyone for the encouragement along the way and say; this is still an Awesome job! I couldn't believe I was getting paid for driving! haha! I was driving 3500-4000 miles / week and it didn't tire me out or anything. I still hope I can make something work in this industry; but we'll see.....
Dennixx Thanks this. -
